1 | Check Blazer
In this collection, your blazer will determine the colors in your capsule wardrobe. Pick a pattern that has the neutral colors you want to wear or wear the most. Rag and Bone’s “Slade” blazer has been a Nordstrom 6 favorite for years. This black and blue check fabrication is lightweight and less structured than a traditional blazer. Veronica Beard’s dickey blazers never disappoint, and this multicolor check has all the colors that make it the easiest to mix and match.
Styling Tip – When the season shift is stronger you can layer up the lightweight blazers by adding a matching vest or dickey.
2 | Vest
This is the most fashionable piece in the fall capsule. Choose a tailored style you can wear as a top too. A neutral solid color vest is the easiest to mix and match, but one that’s made to match your check blazer is fun too.
Styling Tip – Some styles have a plunging neckline, but it’s easy to layer a lace-trim bra underneath.

Styling Tip – Most blazers have black in them, but if you pick a pattern that doesn’t, and you don’t like the look of a matching vest, substitute a solid neutral like tan or brown.
3 | Black T-Shirt

4 | White Blouse
Does everyone look good in white? Yes! Most of us look better in bright white or ivory, but if you apply the right makeup you can wear both.
Can you wear white after labor day? Yes!
Now that is clear let me share some insight on which whites will work best for you. As we transition into fall you can still wear white tops like this. If you want to wear them with white bottoms, switch your shoes to boots, and add lots of textured layers.

If you live in a colder climate consider an ivory or ecru jeans and blouse combination instead of bright white.

7 | Slip Skirt
This is not the first time you’ve seen me style a slip skirt in a capsule wardrobe. Last year she was part of my Modern Classic Capsule. I promised you months ago this trend was going to be big. Wear a jean skirt all the same ways you wear your favorite jeans. If you opt for a midi-length, keep your proportions in check and never wear a layering piece or top that stops halfway down your outfit. Heels help too. Small Marcie
The small Marcie is my favorite size. It is a great crossbody bag for a tall woman and looks great without the strap too. The medium is quite large. All of the color choices are so good. If you like to mix metals the grey with gold hardware is fantastic. Nobody makes a more versatile brown color than Chole.
