If I’m not cozied up to my computer with a cup of coffee, my favorite place to shop is the Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Palm Springs. With over 180 stores, you are guaranteed to find something fabulous for your wardrobe. Sometimes having so many options can be overwhelming. As a lifelong fan of designer brands and a professional personal shopper, with a retail sales income, the secret to a successful shopping trip anywhere is a high-low style with a mix of brands.
WHAT ARE THE BEST WARDROBE BRANDS FOR A CAPSULE?
High-low style is about mixing different brands. Last month I wrote an article that featured one of my favorite bucket list brands and showcased some small brands that I’m currently spotlighting. Finding a designer brand on sale doesn’t always make it a good deal. I suggest shopping with a list of bucket list brands you love that generally fit you well and match your style.
Double Duty Designer Brands
Even on-sale designer brands are a big wardrobe investment. Besides being on your bucket list, if the pieces you pick do double-duty you’ll have an easier time making outfits.
I brought a signature Valentino pink bag with a red interior home from Palm Springs. Red and pink have always been my happy colors. I’m also a fan of cool hardware on accessories. Valentino studs have been a signature on their accessories for years, so this bag already checked two boxes on my designer brand bucket list. When considering all the ways I could style the bag beyond a crossbody, like a clutch, or even a belt I cut my cost per wear by 3. Watch Coffee in my Closet to see how to transform a studded Valentino purse strap into a belt.
Recreate the Look
These short straps are detachable so you can upgrade an old bag you have wear the chain as a choker. Act fast these styles are on sale and there aren’t many left.
Emily in Paris Wears Valentino
It was also easier to pull the trigger on this purchase after watching Emily in Paris. It seemed every character on that show wore a colorful Valentino bag or belt. See more of the capsule wardrobes I made inspired by Emily in Paris, such as my post on how to mix prints.
HIGH-LOW WARDROBE CHECKLIST
If you only remember one thing when you’re shopping, remember my New Wardrobe Checklist. The checklist is a capsule wardrobe itself and the 14 most versatile items you’ll ever own. You can literally add anything you fall in love with to pieces from my list to make an outfit. The list is my stylist’s secret weapon. I share with all new blog subscribers. If you’re lucky, you might even find a name brand from the list on sale. Whether you use it to shop your closet or the biggest premium outlets in California take it with you.
