The September Nordstrom Capsule 9 Pieces | 52 Different Outfits

The calendar says fall. My weather app disagrees.

I love fashion, but I hate most capsule wardrobes. I don’t want twelve boring basics that all go together. I want pieces I’m excited to wear, with different shapes and personalities that still work together no matter how I combine them.

This month’s capsule started with this embroidered Veronica Beard jacket. It’s lightweight enough to wear now as a top, and the cropped shape hits just right with flowy dresses, midi skirts, and wide-leg jeans. Navy gave me the neutral I needed to build a fall color story around, without defaulting to black.

My Capsule Wardrobe Formula™ combines the pieces you can’t wait to wear with versatile closet essentials and Outfit Multipliers™. This month, 9 pieces make 52 different outfits. Nothing boring about

The most expensive clothes in your closet are the ones you never wear. This capsule is designed to make sure you do.

The Veronica Beard Embroidered Jacket That Inspired the Capsule

When I saw the price tag, I hated how much I loved this little jacket. When I consider cost per wear, I can justify almost any price tag. That’s math I’m good at.

This embroidered Veronica Beard jacket inspired the entire September capsule. It’s lightweight enough to wear now as a top, and navy was the neutral I needed to build a fall color story around without defaulting to black. The cropped shape hits just right with flowy dresses, midi skirts and wide leg jeans.

The Jeans That Fit Everyone Go Dark

These jeans survived two weeks in Italy and have made it into every capsule I’ve built since June. Now they come in the dark wash you’ll want for fall, and they’re already making an appearance in my dressy cruise capsule coming soon.

Paige’s Transcend fabric is soft, comfortable and won’t stretch out, plus they come in three lengths. Use my promo code CLOSETCHOREO15 to save on everything at Paige.

The Under $40 Striped Tee

Neutral prints are on my New Wardrobe Checklist. Think simple stripes, checks and subtle patterns in colors you already treat like solids. They give your outfit a little more personality without bossing everything else around.

This under $40 tee is a perfect example. The mostly solid navy background lets it act like a solid, so I can mix it with the embroidered jacket or layer the vest and blazer over it. Pair it with the dark denim and it creates a long column of color underneath all those layers

The Lace Skirt I’m Not Saving for Special Occasions

I love fashion too much to save the pretty pieces for special occasions. This lace skirt looks just as good with a striped tee and flats as it does with silk, a blazer and boots.

The more unexpected the mix, the more I want to wear it.

The Empire Waist Dress With More Than One Dress Code

The empire waist makes this dress work on any body type. It visually lengthens your legs while floating over your middle, and the adjustable straps let you control where everything hits.

It’s dressy enough for a special occasion, but I’m not saving it for one. Layer the embroidered jacket over it, wear a striped tee underneath to make it more casual, or add the silky blouse underneath for work.

The Designer Duo Without the Designer Price

No one will ever know it’s not designer.

The belt looks like Celine or Chanel, and the boots look like Staud; both are genuine leather. I love the modest heel and looser, less serious shaft on these black boots.

These are the kinds of fall trends you’ll wear for the next 10 years.

The Vest That Thinks It’s a Top

This is my favorite kind of Outfit Multiplier™.

The knit vest comes in sizes down to XXS, so it has enough shape to wear on its own as a top instead of just another layer. Wear it over the striped tee or silky blouse, under the blazer, or over the slip dress.

One piece. A ridiculous number of outfit ideas.

Affordable Quality Closet Essentials

You don’t need a new wardrobe. You need better basics.

These are the pieces I use to fill in the blanks after the fashion pieces inspire the capsule. My European linen blazer is so good I own it in two colors. The washable silk notch collar blouse looks just as good under the vest as it does with all by itself with just a pair of jeans. This washable silk slip skirt comes in 17 colors.

Good basics don’t make a capsule boring. They give you more room to play with the fun stuff.
