FASHIONABLE BLACK AND WHITE VACATION CAPSULE WARDROBE

Most of you love to travel but hate packing. Good news, I love building capsule wardrobes that easily mix and match to make a variety of different outfits with just a few pieces. The sourcing and styling have been done so you can use the short checklists and lookbooks I make for you to customize your capsule. I’m guessing you normally pack a bunch of black and white pieces because they all “match”. This isn’t a bad idea, but the next time your packing, try this take on a black and white vacation capsule wardrobe. It’s fashionable, fun, and easy to put together with a high-low mix of brands.

“A big part of her approach focuses on capsule wardrobes, collections of items she carefully curates using a mix of budget and more expensive pieces — “high/low brands,” she says — that mix and match to create a wide variety of different outfits.”

2024 Edit

Last year I shared a Resort Casual Capsule Wardrobe that uses just 10 pieces to make 23 outfits that say “I’m going somewhere”. The checklist and outfit combinations still work and here is a 2024 version you can shop now and mix with the black and white vacation capsule.

Mix In Your New Black and White Capsule

VACATION CAPSULE WARDROBE CORE

1. Black Swimsuit

There are two black swimsuit styles that I recommend the most. A style that does double duty as a bodysuit, like the ones I shared in my Resort Casual Capsule Wardrobe are a practical choice. If something smooth and solid feels too body conscious, try a suit with design details like the one I’m wearing that directs attention in the right direction.

This style from La Blanca was a Nordstrom 6 Drop pick last year.

2. Black & White Swimsuit

A black and white printed swimsuit is one of the most flattering styles you can choose. Optical prints keep your eyes moving and unable to rest on any lumps and bumps.

3. Skirt & Top Set

A matching set makes a great travel essential because it’s so versatile. My Resort Casual Capsule included a short set, and this capsule includes a flirty skirt and top set. Crop tops are trending and look good with high waisted skirts and pants that don’t show too much skin. I found a few trending sets for you under under $75!

4. White Jeans

White jeans look fresh and keep you covered. Wear them on cooler days or when you travel. The pieces in this capsule look the best with a higher rise white jean.

If you’re looking for an ecru of off-white there are some great choices in THIS POST.

5. Black & White Dress

A black and white dress is the hero here. She’s so fun you may want more than one! Choose a style that is easy to dress up for dinner or down for a day sightseeing or relaxing in your cabana.

6. Black T-Shirt Dress

Pick a lightweight or cotton fabric in a basic shirt style that easily slides over a swimsuit. A long or short style will work. Something with a little spandex or synthetic in it will hold its color longer than a less expensive 100% cotton style.

I just got this one from Target for under $20 that looks like a popular style from ATM that retails for over $150.

7. Duster

I love this 35″ long black and white striped duster cardigan from Amazon. It’s warm enough to wear on the airplane, but long enough to double up as a swim coverup. If you’re heading somewhere super sunny or you tend to run warm, you can opt for a semi-sheer ruana style. Depending on your destination, you may want a classic cardigan like this black one with white trim or this iconic Missoni print style.

Semi Sheer

8. Black & White Tank Top

Wear one layered under your duster or solo with your skirt.

9. Large Scarf

A large scarf is my favorite travel accessory. If you get a square larger than 47″ wide you can wear it as a sarong. In warmer climates a large scarf can take the place of a cardigan or styled as a shawl over a dress for evening.
