COAT CHECK | 5 JACKETS EVERYONE NEEDS
Get your wardrobe in check with the 5 coats everyone needs. Most of us wear many hats. From soccer mom to executive entrepreneur, you need the coats that go with them. Your outfit should reflect you and your style that day whether it’s classic in a timeless trench or cool in a leather motorcycle jacket.
1. TIMELESS TRENCH COAT
You can wear a classic trench all year long forever and ever. My khaki Burberry trench coat is older than I am! No matter what colors you wear khaki is the best neutral. It plays well with other neutrals like black or blue and is pretty with a pop of color or a pretty pastel.

This classic style is available in petite sizes too. London Fog makes this style for only $107.80. It has a detachable hood. If you want something a little warmer get this soft wool blend style.

A CLASSIC TRENCH ALONG SIDE PIECES FROM MY CAPSULE WARDROBE
The longevity of a Burberry Trench is exactly why you CAN have nice things. The Mid-length Kensington Heritage trench coat is the most popular Burberry style. The Chelsea Heritage trench coat is great if you want a little more length. The storm shield and hood on the Taffeta Trench make it a great raincoat.
A timeless trench makes a great travel companion because it’s light weight and can be layered or packed without adding bulk.
The most versatile style stops at the knee, roughly 38″, and looks good over pants or a dress.
2. LEATHER MOTORCYCLE JACKET
Fashionable ageless style starts with this piece. A supple leather jacket that fits perfectly and is broken in to kiss your curves has always been a go-to for all my clients.
Nothing beats jeans, a t-shirt, and a leather jacket.
You get what you pay for. Invest in a quality leather jacket now. Good leather just gets better with age.
This one from All Saints is my personal favorite. Size up so you have room to layer.
I recently found this one from Walter Baker on sale for $199.97 from $698.
GENUINE LEATHER COATS UNDER $300
Look cool and effortlessly pulled together when you toss a leather jacket over an ultra famine piece like a slip dress or silk camisole top.

3. WARM TOPPER
This stylish staple makes the perfect grab-and-go coat when temperatures drop. Balance the heavier style with a just slightly tailored silhouette and open neckline.
A wool or cashmere blend like these looks expensive and will keep you warm. These styles all come in more great color choices too.
Add some interest to your outfit with a colorful or neutral print topper.
A neutral print or colorful topper looks great layered, even with another graphic. When there’s a chill in the air swap out your graphic tee for a hoodie. Keep the look cozy and casual with a cool pair of sneakers.
Elevate your look with a knit, but keep the vibe casual with a hood.
4. PUFFER COAT
A puffer is perfect for layering over all your sporty outfits and cozy capsules. I personally love the convivence of a hooded style like this one from North Face that keeps your hands free in the rain.
Here are a few of my current favorites. This one from Guess is water-resistant and comes in 14 colors.

You can’t beat the comfort and price of these separates from Aerie. Lots of great sneakers like these from New Balance are unisex. Size down 1.5 sizes from men’s to get your size in women’s.
5. DOUBLE BREASTED BLAZER
Make and makeover a ton of outfits with a double breasted blazer. It’s so good you won’t want to take it off when you get to where you’re going.
This double breasted blazer is the best wardrobe investment I’ve made all year. It instantly creates a flattering silhouette and adds style to your look. From jeans and a T-shirt to a cocktail dress, a blazer never fails to pull a look together for the better. Check out my post on this must-have for more ways to wear her now.
