3 Things A Woman’s Wardrobe Always Needs

Hi, I’m Jen. I’m a 45-year-old fashion blogger and personal stylist. Some may call me a shopaholic. Although I shop every day to bring you the best current mix of brands, it’s these three pieces that I wear the most and a woman’s wardrobe always needs.

Slimming Jeans

Denim has become a year staple in every woman’s wardrobe. When you find a slimming style that goes with all of the shoes you want to wear you can easily make outfits you love. Although wide-leg jeans are the most popular style this year, a classic bootcut jean may be the most versatile. Classic bootcut jeans fit closer to your thigh and have an opening of about 17″ compared to the opening on a wide leg style which is usually more than 20″ and looser in the legs.

The Nordstrom 6 chose FRAME’s “Le Mini Bootcut” jeans in dark grey for our October Drop. I wore them and Fidelity’s non-distressed dark wash “Lily” during my virtual styling session on YouTube. “Lily” also comes in a super slimming black wash.

What To Wear With Bootcut Jeans.

Classic bootcut jeans look better with long or loose tops. They are also the best choice if you want to wear heels and prefer a stiletto or dainty kitten heel that could get a little lost or look out of balance with a wider opening.

How Long Should Your Jeans Be?

Ideally, you want a variety of jean lengths to be able to wear with all your different heel heights, but there is one length that works for all of them. To find the most versatile jeans length for your wardrobe take your full length inseam, add your lowest heel height, and subtract half an inch.

I don’t recommend wearing bootcut jeans with bulky sneakers but you can wear them with flats. Pointed-toe flats look the best, but then I recommend you hem your jeans to your cropped or “ankle” length inseam. This changes the silhouette and makes your bootcut jeans look more like a straight leg style. However, now your jeans look good with flats, heels, and are still wide enough at the opening to slip a fitted boot up and under.

Two-Tone Jewelry

I’d consider myself a chameleon. My style changes all the time, but it doesn’t matter what I’m wearing if I have at least one piece of two-tone jewelry on I can mix and match whatever I want. Two-tone jewelry lets you mix your metals and make the most of all the pieces in your wardrobe.

Two- Tone Favorites Under $500

I’m a big fan of this open bracelet and ring style. They are easy to style and not super size specific so they make great gifts too.

I first shared this cool short two-tone necklace in my Street Style Capsule Wardrobe last year. This 10-piece 72 outfit capsule included a leather jacket and a short blazer. Both of those pieces are hardware heavy, but it doesn’t matter if one is gold and the other is silver if you wear them with a two-tone piece like this.

Veronica Beard Miller Blazer

This blazer was the first piece I purchased without my Nordstrom employee discount four years ago when I started blogging from home. It continues to be the cornerstone of many of my most popular capsule wardrobes and weekly outfits!

Why This Blazer is the Best

  1. Flattering design with an exaggerated shoulder that naturally slims your waist.
  2. Slightly shorter than your average double breasted blazer so it looks good with midi skirts and dresses.
  3. Detailed construction like hidden zippers and buttonhole placement make it easy to style in lots of different ways.
  4. Size inclusive 00-24 in all the best neutral colors and different hardware choices.

Dress It Down With a Dickey

Although you can buy matching pants and make it a suit this blazer is so easy to dress down with a dickey. A dickey easily zips inside your blazer to give you a casual layered look without all the heat or bulking up your arms.
